How women perceive the nomination of Kamala Harris

How some African women perceive the nomination of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s Vice Presidents. Customary, Men have been looking down upon women in the African society. Many elements of the African culture are to blame. They imposed the inferiority of women. That is why in many African women faces issues of gender based violence, rape, gender inequality, low quality education, lack of political power, female genital mutilation, and more. Some offenders who even commit serious issues such as rape, gender based violence, and more go unpunished despite of the harm they cause to the African women and girls. A good example is with Teenage pregnancies during this COVID-19 time. Many offenders, who took advantage of the little school going girls, will go unpunished.

When Kamala Harris was named to be Joe’s Bidden VP, women in different parts of the world jubilated. They saw one of them would set up the infrastructure to address different issues facing women that have gone unattended to. Especially in Africa where offenders of issues affecting women that are never brought to justice.  Kamala Harris journey working as California State Attorney, California fist black senator, to her latest nomination as Joe Biden Vice President inspires many women in Africa. They see her as someone who will help them fight for the issues of race, gender, and sexual oppression on women when/if elected as the first female America black Vice President. 

Kamala Harris nomination provides the hope for many African women leaders to rise into powerful positions. Many African women leaders now challenge the male leaders to follow into Joe Biden shoes in nominating women to powerful positions. Former Liberian President, Ellen Jonson Sharif congratulated Kamala Harris on her nomination. She acknowledges the challenges and triumph that comes with the moment witnessed as being the first elected woman presidents in Africa. To her, her win will be a win to all the women and girls in the world. It will also be an inspiration to many to follow in her footsteps.
