Egypt‘s the birthplace of civilization. It’s also home to the three pyramid of Giza, which are iconic landmarks in the study of Egypt’s history. Their histories are from 2550 to 2490 B.C period. Here’s everything you need to know about the great pyramid at Giza.

They were built by three different pharaohs: Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure.  Even though there’re no records that clearly details how, sources have it that  it took over 20 years to construct. It was also constructed using excess of two millions stone blocks, each weighing 15 tons.

 

The construction of the great pyramid of Giza remains the seven Ancient wonder of the world.  The pyramid soars 147 meters high, which was one of the tallest for a building for over 3,800 years. However the Lincoln Cathedral surpassed it in 1300s.

The pyramid served many purposes. Many historians believe that Its primarily one was as a place where the king and queen were to be buried. The Egyptians also believed that it also acted as a place for the regeneration of the deceased king after their burial as the Pyramid at Giza featured three burial chambers: an underground, queen, and king chambers.  Other theories suggests that they acted as a pathway for the Pharaoh to reach heaven, and that’s why they’re constructed that tall. 

The good news is that tourists can enter the pyramid of Giza and see why it’s a unique landmark in the study of Egyptians history.  The entry point for tourists is at the Robbers tunnel, built in 820AD.  At this tunnel, they’ll be able to walk through the masonry of the building for up to 27 meters.  Tourists will also have several ancients buildings and pyramids to see as well.

In conclusion, the Pyramid at Giza remains a significant landmark in the study of history. It was built by three pharaohs of Egypt and it serves many purposes.
