Salomon Kalou’s blunder

German football (Bundesliga) is trying to be a forerunner in the fight against the coronavirus disease, and Salomon Kalou may have ruined everything this week, in just a few seconds. At least in terms of communications.

Germany, whose officials do not want to be as fast, maybe too fast, as France and the Netherlands with the cancellation of both national championships, the Ligue 1 and the Eredivisie, was planning, actually is still planning, to progressively switch on the lights of football stadiums even though it will be without any single fan. Already reassured by the fact that the government gave its agreement, the German league made up the decision to have football played again by May 15.

Needless to say that all of this will be enforced only if the evolution of the pandemic is satisfying enough, today and tomorrow. Do not take anything for granted in such a period.

And what about Salomon Kalou? The Ivorian striker, winner of the 2015 African Cup of Nations with the Elephants, did the worse. Not one, but two mistakes: when entering the training facility of his club Hertha Berlin earlier this week, the little brother of Bonaventure violated the safety rules set up in the context of Covid-19 struggle. And after having shaken hands of teammates and the staff, he did not find better than putting the video on social networks. Well, I made a terrible mistake, but I want all the world to look at it. Very well.

Kalou has apologized ever since, but damage has already been done. Hertha Berlin suspended the player from training sessions and official games, if the season effectively returns. The former player from Chelsea, whose contract with Hertha ends up in June, is not sure to wear one more time the jersey of the capital city at all. And not only for football reasons.
