Reds are making it exceptional

By Guillaume Mahot

18 games played, 17 victories and one single draw. 46 goals scored for 14 ones taken. 52 points taken out of the 54 possible. Top of the ranking of course. Those figures are FC Liverpool’s ones in Premier League. They even tend to make Leicester’s season, who is ranking second with 42 points (which makes more than 2 points per game, a champion’s average!), nearly commonplace. What a mess. Not to mention the Citizens of Pep Guardiola, third of the league with 38 points and one game more than the Reds. Far away, Manchester City, but who could have bet on such a gap in the middle of the season?

The Red Devils of Manchester United are the only ones to have succeeded in preventing Sadio Mané’s teammates from accomplishing a perfect tour. In late October, they obliged the Reds to share points after a draw 1-1 at Old Trafford (Adam Lallana scored for Liverpool in the five last minutes of the game). The only points lost by Jürgen Klopp’s team in this 2019/2020 Premier League season so far.

With only 18 games played in the English league because of the FIFA Club World Cup they had to play in Doha, Qatar (Liverpool beat Flamengo 1-0 in final), the Reds gave themselves the right to several jokers. The last game won against Leicester in a confrontation between the first and the second ones led up to a demonstration and a real humiliation on Leicester’s side, whose squad was blown up 4-0 at home on the Boxing Day. Leicester had only three shots in the game, no one on target…

Liverpool is meeting Wolverhampton this afternoon to continue their infernal tempo. Mo Salah, Mané, Naby Keïta and their classmates can live a wonderful season if things turn in the right way in Premier League and Champions’ League as well. For now, this is just a wonderful first part.
