Generosity

By Guillaume Mahot

In the midst of that dramatic world crisis that we are currently living, true faces come to light. While the coronavirus disease has killed more than 109 000 people in the entire world for more than 1 780 000 confirmed cases all across the planet (and more than 405 000 people who recovered), responsibilities, no matter what you can earn or make as a living, are little by little becoming crucial to assume. The first one that everyone is able to take is simply to stay at home whenever it is possible, so as not to expand the pandemic. Another responsibility to take is to help: help hospitals, help nurses, help the homeless, help the people who need it. We can all do that and, for sportsmen and sportswomen who sometimes earn a lot, a donation can have a huge impact.

Senegalese football player Sadio Mané (FC Liverpool, Premier League) is also famous for his generosity, and not only his football skills, since he had a school, a mosque, a football pitch and a hospital built in his hometown over the last few years. He lately gave a donation reaching 45 000 euros to help Senegal fight against the pandemic (which makes 30 million FCFA). But Mané was not the only one to demonstrate his value as a human being.French world champion Kylian Mbappé, Cameroonian and Algerian roots, decided to help the homeless by giving a donation to the Abbé Pierre foundation in France. In the meantime, his teammate in selection Paul Pogba, who became a world champion as well two years ago in Russia, chose to help UNICEF UK with a first donation reaching 30 000 euros and 30 000 more euros in a second time. The Manchester United midfielder from Guinean origin is then rejoining many sport icons like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Franck Ribéry, who took advantage of their fortunes to help the world.
