Chaos Erupt as Stonebwoy Pulls Gun on the VGMA Stage
The 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards aka VGMA2019 became chaotic after Shatta Wales’s and Stonebwoy’s fans clashed.
Awarded the Reggae-Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Stonebwoy was called on stage to receive the award. He beat Shatta Wale and Samini, among other artists in the local Ghanaian music industry. It’s the 5th time he won the award consecutively.
Shatta Wale, seated in the crowd while Stonebwoy gave his speech, suddenly showed up on stage. With his motive unknown, the crowd resisted him and that made the situation chaotic.
As a result, the programme came to a halt for a long time. The security tried to stop the situation from worsening when Stonebwoy pulled out a gun. His team members tried to protect his gun from the security personnel.
Stonebwoy was seen holding a gun as in a video making rounds on the internet. After his associates intervened, he put the gun back in his trousers.
It’s the first time in the Ghana Music Awards’ history that organizers were unable to announce the ‘Artiste of the Year’ category winner.
That has been attributed to the fracas that occurred between the two nominee artistes of that award category during the event.
Berla Mundi and Sefa Kayi, this year’s Awards hosts, announced that the category winner, including that of the ‘Most Popular Song of the Year’ would be announced later.
According to the hosts, attributed the failure to announce awards winners for the two categories to the fight broke out between the two artistes.
Although it’s said Shatta Wale was walking up the stage to celebrate with rival, his fans began throwing blows each other.
The event that was disrupted for almost 30 minutes saw guests such as Jackie Appiah, an actress, rush out of the events venue.
Shatta Wale had already received two awards that night during the event. Shortly after the scuffles, he posted on Twitter that “Don’t play with a lion like that…He dislikes to smell blood!!!”
However, Stonebwoy apologized for what happened when he went on stage to receive his second award for the ‘Best Collaboration of the Year.’
He stated as follows:
“I’m really sorry for the incident that happened earlier on and I only had to react out of natural instincts because we all know how premeditative some people can be. We’ve seen on social media the treats and everything so we couldn’t come in unprepared because anything could have happened like you guys saw.”
“I come in peace and I go in peace and I apologize to the whole masses of Ghana that the Awards is going to continue. Thank you very much for supporting my music, for supporting everybody else’s music…by their deeds we have all seen” he said.
Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy had not seen each other in person for a long time. Therefore, the former’s intentions remain a mystery.
