Champions’ League: Liverpool in final again

This Champions’ League version 2018/2019 is covering everyone with ridicule. The term “remontada” has become normal to use and seeing one team make up one’s delay after the first leg game is no longer a surprise. Manchester United against PSG, Juventus against Atlético, Ajax against Real and Juventus, Liverpool against Barcelona, Tottenham against Ajax…The examples are not missing, for the biggest joy of the fans, all these statistics being swept to show that anything is possible no matter how many goals you took in the first round. This edition is unique for this reason essentially: comeback!

The two protagonists of the 2019 final, Liverpool and Tottenham, did not go against the rule. Liverpool first, whose squad turned people mad by blowing up Barcelona 4-0 in Anfield Road, thus getting qualified after the 0-3 conceded in Camp Nou (4-3 on the two confrontations). Without Mohamed Salah, injured, the teammates of Sadio Mané and Naby Keita relied on former Dogue from Lille Divock Origi and Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, two goals each, to pass. It will be the second consecutive final of Champions’ League for Mané, Matip and Salah, the first one for Guinean midfielder Naby Keita.

Tottenham then, who passed after an incredible ending in Holland, the qualifying goal being scored by ex PSG player Lucas Moura in the last second of the additional time. Lucas scored his first hat trick in Champions’ League for a victory 3-2 against Ajax Amsterdam that was enabling the Spurs to see the ultimate final in June in spite of a defeat 0-1 in London one week earlier. Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama will play a first European final as well.
