Bob Collymore, CEO of Kenya’s Safaricom, is dead

Bob Collymore, the CEO of Kenya’s largest telecommunications company, and one of the largest enterprises in the region, Safaricom PLC, has passed.

Mr. Robert William Collymore was a Guyana-born British national who served at the helm of Safaricom from 2010. In 2017 he was diagnosed with acute myeloid cancer and sought treatment for the same, returning to his post in 2018.

His term, which was due to lapse this coming August, was extended by a year, suggesting that he really was on the mend, health wise.

Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated in the early hours of 1st July, and he passed on. He was 61.

Below is a statement from Safaricom PLC.
