Ghana set to construct WestPark, a first ever renewable energy industrial park in Africa

By Samuel Abuya

Ghana is set to become the first country in Africa to build and have a fully renewable energy industrial park in the continent. The park, known as WestPark, is set to be built in Takoradi, a city in the western parts of Ghana.

While confirming the report, Siemens CEO Sabine Dall’Omo said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WestPark Enterprises had been signed to come up with an expandable microgrid solution for the fastest-growing industrial and business park.

The new and innovative industrial park is expected to fasten the transformation of Takoradi, the country’s third-largest city. Siemens is expected to create a 250KW microgrid that will be used to control the generation of energy and throughput for the initial stages of buildings that will done at the WestPark.

“This project is perfectly in line with Siemens’ vision for future businesses in Ghana and other African countries. As a company, we are continuously looking for new responsible and efficient energy and infrastructure solutions, and our collaboration with WestpPark is a good example of how we can support partners with similar goals,” said Sabine Dall’Omo, Siemens CEO.

The technology which will be used in WestPark is expected to spur economic growth across Africa. According to developers of the project, WestPark will do away with most of the challenges that business companies in the sub-Sahara Africa usually face such as water, reliable energy, transport and broadband internet.
