By Samuel Abuya

The United Nations has confirmed that it will give Mozambique and Comoros Island a total of $13M as an emergency aid following the Cyclone Kenneth catastrophe, which is a second cyclone to hit the region in a span of a month.

According to the UN, the funds will go a long way in helping the victims get food and water and repair the destroyed infrastructure. The Cyclone Kenneth ripped through the northern parts of Mozambique last week on Thursday, sweeping through the all the villages in the area.

The weather experts have sounded a warning that the Cyclone Kenneth may bring with it rainfall amount that is twice compared to that of the earlier cyclone Idai that claimed more than 900 people in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

The Cyclone Kenneth also swept through some parts of Tanzania.

Early reports indicate that the areas hit by the Cyclone Kenneth will need up to $2bn to fully recover from the destructions caused by the latest cyclone.
