‘Trouble’ looms for a Met police officer after appearing on the Nigerian Big Brother ‘without permission’

The Metropolitan Police says it has embarked on an internal investigation after one of its own, Police Constable (PC) Khafi Kareem, went ahead to appear in the Nigerian Big Brother show even after her bosses refused her permission to do so.

While insisting that the 29-year-old Khafi Kareem had been denied permission to appear on the show by her seniors, the Scotland Yard said it had given her unpaid leave for other reasons not related to the Nigerian version of the Big Brother show.

Africa Magic, on the other hand, said the police constable had come to the Nigerian Big Brother show to do what they termed as “societal good”.

“She is not only hoping to win the prize money but she wants the exposure that being in Big Brother Naija House brings so that she can do societal good,” Africa Magic television said.

Ms Khafi Kareem’s profile on the television channel’s website says she would use the prize money, if she emerges winner, on hosting a travel show in the country, Nigeria, and pump another amount of the money into charity work.

“A PC, attached to the Met’s transformation command, requested permission to take part in a reality television entertainment show in Nigeria. Permission was not given. The Met is aware that the officer has since appeared on the show without authority,” a Met spokesman said. “The Met does not support the officer’s appearance nor does she represent the Met whilst appearing on the show,” he added.

The Scotland Yard said that any police officer who will be found to have contravened the set police standards of professional behavior will be subjected to misconduct proceedings.

In statement, the Africa Magic television said PC Khafi Kareem believes that one can have it all as long they believe in themselves.
