Mukiele under the PSG radar?

By Guillaume Mahot

French defender Nordi Mukiele, Congolese roots, may be the next PSG gem. According to Sky Germany, the central defender of Red Bull Leipzig, who can play as a right back as well, would be watched over by the club of the French capital city in perspective of the upcoming season.

Mukiele, it must be reminded, has already a background in France since he became professional with Laval (39 games in second division) and mostly Montpellier (56 games in first division) before moving to RB Leipzig, Germany, for sixteen million euros. It was nearly two years ago, and Bundesliga was about to discover a remarkably interesting (and young, he is only 22 years old) football player.

Two years have passed since Mukiele’s departure from France. The French Congolese defender got experience with 58 games played (for four goals scored) and he also knocked on the door of the very high level by playing European tournaments like the Europa League (C3) and the Champions’ League (C1) this year. He was finalist of the German Cup in 2019 too, and if he has no trophy under his belt yet, it is only a matter of time for him to fill up his record of achievements, because the youngster is both polyvalent and talented.

PSG did not make any offer yet, but they are said to be interested in his profile, according to the German media. The Parisians have three players at this post right now: Belgian Thomas Meunier, German Thilo Kehrer and French Colin Dagba. The first one has real chances to leave the club in the end of the season and the relationships with his coach Thomas Tuchel are not idyllic. Kehrer and Dagba are not satisfying enough for PSG not to consider an alternative.

If Mukiele should come, some space would have to be made anyway. Without forgetting the envy of the player, who can be willing to stay and grow up in Leipzig…as well as go and play for a top European club.
