Golden State and Iguodala, end of story

By Guillaume Mahot

All good things come to an end. After six years spent and three titles (2015, 2017 and 2018) with the Golden State Warriors, American forward Andre Iguodala, Nigerian roots, is no longer a player from the Californian franchise. The MVP of the NBA Finals 2015 was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he should be traded again to a more ambitious squad. The Dallas Mavericks and the Houston Rockets are said to be interested.

At 35 years old, the one who was drafted in ninth position in 2004 by the Philadelphia Sixers is closing a rich chapter in his long-lasting career. In Oakland, Iguodala made history and broke records with a team that grabbed most of the titles in the last few years. His leaving is undoubtedly the end of a chapter for the Warriors, who will need talented elements to replace him, but not only: Kevin Durant left as well (Brooklyn Nets) while DeMarcus Cousins, free agent, is expected to prepare his luggage too (his contract was a one-year deal but an extension was once considered).

The Warriors already signed point guard D’Angelo Russell from Brooklyn. Without Durant, Cousins, Iguodala and Thompson (injured for a long period and about to miss the beginning of the season 2019/2020), Stephen Curry’s team will be in complete restructuring next year.

Iguodala will probably never play for the Grizzlies. Longing to compete for the title, what we can understand when you played six years in Golden State, the forward, as said previously, should leave quickly. Dallas and Houston have been evoked. It seems complicated to see him be transferred to the Mavs, who do not really perform right now, even though it may change with players like Luka Doncic, Boban Marjanovic and Kristaps Porzingis. It would be more logical to see him in Houston, but logic sometimes…
