Fivgram, a new social media platform developed by Nigeria-linked technology company VETA ORIGIN LTD, has launched on the web and Google Play, entering a competitive market dominated by established international networks.
The newly launched platform says it has attracted approximately 10,000 early users across 16 countries, although the figures have not been independently verified. Its launch announcement also offers early adopters an opportunity to establish their profiles with complimentary blue verification checkmarks as the network seeks to grow its initial community.
Fivgram’s Android application is listed on Google Play under VETA ORIGIN LTD, whose developer details identify an Abuja, Nigeria address. The app is designed around social networking and real-time conversations, allowing users to publish posts, reply, repost, and quote other people’s content. It also supports private messaging, photo sharing, live timelines and post-view analytics.
Users can also apply for a blue verification checkmark, a feature intended to distinguish verified profiles. The platform’s current store description does not, however, provide detailed public information about its verification criteria or whether the promotional offer applies automatically to every early adopter.
The arrival of Fivgram adds to the development of African-linked digital platforms seeking to build alternatives to established social media services. The opportunity extends beyond attracting registrations. Platforms must build active communities, retain users, support creators and develop sustainable revenue models while addressing privacy, security and content moderation.
For Fivgram, the early user figures provide an initial indication of interest, but downloads and registrations alone do not establish whether a social network has gained meaningful traction. Its ability to encourage regular conversations, attract influential creators and maintain reliable services across different markets will be important as it expands.
The competition is particularly demanding because established networks already benefit from large audiences, mature advertising systems and extensive creator ecosystems.
A new entrant needs to give users a clear reason to join and, more importantly, to keep returning. Fivgram’s next phase will therefore be measured less by the number of people who sign up and more by whether it can turn its early audience into an active, trusted and sustainable digital community.
