Ziyech, Blues next summer

By Guillaume Mahot

Moroccan football player Hakim Ziyech is going to discover a new league by next summer. The 26-year-old winger, who can play either left or right side of the pitch, signed for London club of Chelsea FC, and will play in Premier League by the beginning of the season 2020/2021. Hakim Ziyech will play the remaining season 2019/2020 with his future ex club of Ajax Amsterdam. The amount of the transaction approximately reached 40 million euros.

The Lion of Atlas played 160 games for Ajax, scoring 48 goals and giving 82 assists. Since 2016 and his first steps with the most famous club of the Netherlands, the Moroccan winger, about to hit 27 years old in upcoming March, filled up his trophy case with a Dutch championship in 2019, a Golden Boot in 2018 and several Eredivisie Top Assists awards.

The 2018/2019 season was unforgettable for Ajax Amsterdam with these semifinals of Champions’ League and the elimination of top European clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus Turin, before being kicked out of the competition, just before the final, by English club of Tottenham Hotspur whose squad would then lose 0-2 against Reds of Liverpool in the big English final. Such a tremendous route arouse the interest of other clubs who bought Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus) or Frenkie de Jong (FC Barcelona) to Ajax, but Ziyech, who was playing for FC Twente before moving to Ajax, finally stayed in Holland.

With the Blues of Chelsea, Hakim Ziyech will have the opportunity to play the first parts in Premier League, even though things have been a little more complicated in England so far because of Manchester City and Liverpool’s domination. The winger, who counts 32 selections with Morocco for 14 goals, must be eager to experiment what is considered by many as the best league in the world, which can be discussed, but a competitive and mediatized league for sure.
