{"id":3476,"date":"2019-09-10T13:24:57","date_gmt":"2019-09-10T17:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africaglobalnews.com\/?p=3476"},"modified":"2024-09-30T03:01:34","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T03:01:34","slug":"ghanas-first-president-prediction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africaglobalnews.com\/website_b1ce9d46\/ghanas-first-president-prediction\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana\u2019s first president prediction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Lisa Vives <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ghana\u2019s first president, <a href=\"https:\/\/africaglobalnews.com\">Kwame Nkrumah<\/a>, warned as far back as the 1960s that political independence from European colonial oppressors without economic independence was a recipe for disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nkrumah, who authored \u201cThe struggle continues,\u201d Class Struggle in Africa\u201d and \u201cNeo-colonialism \u2013 the last stage of imperialism,\u201d among others, was deeply aware of the threats faced by the new states and the ploys of their former oppressors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo single part of Africa can be safe, or free to develop fully and independently, while any part remains unliberated,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-5506089157017573\" data-ad-slot=\"1517254432\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>Nkrumah\u2019s words are resounding today as anti-foreign fever is pitting African against African in Cape Town. Some 600 Nigerians are taking airlifts home after their shops and properties came under attack. More than 100,000 Nigerians are estimated to live in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foreign workers in South Africa &#8211; the continent&#8217;s second-largest economy after Nigeria &#8211; are often victims of anti-immigrant sentiment in a nation where almost a third of people are unemployed. The attacks on foreign stores began a day after South African truckers started a nationwide strike on Sunday to protest the employment of foreign drivers, reports the BBC. They blocked roads and torched foreign-driven vehicles mainly in the south-western KwaZulu-Natal province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police say five people have been killed, 420 people arrested and hundreds of shops destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the book \u201cClass Struggle in Africa,\u201d Nkrumah observed that where unemployment is high, worker anger is often channeled against the \u201calien\u201d workers who are blamed for the scarcity of jobs, the shortage of houses, rising prices and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-5506089157017573\" data-ad-slot=\"1517254432\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, after 25 years of democracy, South Africa remains the most economically unequal country in the world, according to the World Bank. If anything, the rainbow nation is even more divided now than it was in 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously disadvantaged South Africans hold fewer assets, have fewer skills, earn lower wages, and are still more likely to be unemployed, a 2018 World Bank report on poverty and inequality in South Africa found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such disparities are unlikely to be helped, however, by policies advanced by Defense and Military Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula. \u201cWhat we see here is criminality, criminals that decide that they are going to take advantage of the <a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/africa\/1196232\/ghanas-first-president-accurately-predicted-what-europes-former-colonizers-would-do-in-africa\/\">challenges <\/a>that South Africa is facing,\u201d she said in an interview with 702 radio. \u201cLaw-enforcement agencies should be called upon now to do their work.\u201d&nbsp;<em>w\/pix of K.
